Gary Mearns

• President and Owner of GMA Consulting

• Graduate of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Commerce – B. Comm. (Major in Industrial Relations), College of Graduate Studies – M.B.A., May 1995.

• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation

• Over 35 years’ experience in Human Resources management in both the public and private sector, including 10 years in labour relations and 8 years in recruitment and staffing

• Sessional Instructor in Human Resource Management (Edwards School of Business at University of Saskatchewan from 2016 to 2024; SIAST from 1996-2002) 

• Extensive experience in collective bargaining as management spokesperson in over 200 sets of negotiations with various unions throughout Western Canada including United Food and Commercial Workers; Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union; Canadian Union of Public Employees; Unifor; Teamsters; I.W.A.; SGEU; IUOE; Saskatoon Teachers Association, and Service Employees International Union. 

• Management Nominee on various arbitration boards

• Extensive experience in recruitment and staffing for managerial and supervisory positions; developing compensation systems; developing and implementing performance appraisal processes and human resource policies 


After 40 years in the human resources field, I decided to change direction. Now, I share my passion for effective human resources practices by helping small to medium sized businesses achieve greater success through more effective management of their people.
